European Green Buildings Have a Lot to Teach Us

Today’s Portland Oregonian newspaper carries a story that reflects my views on European green buildings, things that I learned in preparing my latest book, Green Building Trends: Europe for Island Press, which will be released in May or June. Answering the question, “what do they know that we don’t” (and can really use), the book is a survey of current developments in green building in Europe, especially in the two leading countries, Germany and the UK. Interested readers can pre-order the book from Island Press or Amazon.

New NAED Green Building White Paper, Free Executive Summary

We are pleased to announce that the National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED) has just released an informative new white paper written by founder Jerry Yudelson of Yudelson Associates, entitled “Green Goes Mainstream: How to Profit from Green Market Opportunities.” The study details current trends in the energy efficiency market, and the closely related green building and renewable energy markets.

When electrical distributors need to understand customer questions, such as “what can you do to make my building green?” this study provides cogent and convincing answers. It also provides a comprehensive overview of the three major “mainstream” green markets: energy-efficiency upgrades, green building projects and renewable energy such as solar and wind power systems.

Yudelson Book Named Among Ten Best Architecture Books of 2008

Jerry Yudelson, Marketing Green Building Services: Strategies for Success (Architectural Press, $50). Weinstein writes, “Once you overcome the fact that Yudelson’s writing style owes more to Zig Zigler than to Zola (what marketing maven wouldn’t that describe?) you begin to realize that this book offers invaluable tips on how to sell your green services. You can argue about his futurist projections about how the architecture market will turn into a brighter shade of monetary and ecological green in the near future, but he’s the most pragmatically grounded of futurists.” If you have anything to do with architecture, engineering or construction, this book is an indispensable resource for finding new business in this time of recession.

Video: How Will Obama Impact Green Building?

Jerry Yudelson predicts the Obama administration will spur government to take more of a leadership role in the promotion of Green Building and Green Development.  By enacting regulations favoring green and energy efficient buildings, providing incentives to the private sector, and encouraging adoption of green building by state and local governments, the new administration will help Green Building to become a permanent part of the economic, cultural and financial landscape.
