Looking to the Future. Chapter 9 of Green Building Trends: Europe
I think it’s obvious that low-energy designs will dominate the future but also that BREEAM and LEED rating systems, or their variants, will spread, forcing European architects and engineers to open up their thinking to the broader concerns of sustainable design, including land use, water recycling, renewable energy, sustainable materials, and indoor environmental quality. But the European lead in low-energy residential and commercial design will likely continue, since they have already institutionalized many of these practices.
