Our Latest Green Building
Articles & Research
In addition to the above new book title with several more on the way, in recent months, Yudelson Associates has published the following articles which you may find useful:
This spring, in an article for Buildings.com, we made the business case for greening your facilities now.
In the May issue of Consulting-Specifying Engineer, Jerry began a three-part series on the keys to marketing green building services.
In the May issue of HPAC Engineering magazine, we wrote: “Marketing should not be a four-letter word for the green-building industry. The truth is: no one really knows what engineers have accomplished on a job if they do not speak, write, and tell stories about it.”
Jerry also wrote monthly columns for iGreenBuild.com. In June, he asked, “How are green buildings and the Toyota Prius related?” Read “Lean and Green: The New Sustainability Paradigm.” In May, the subject was Shakespeare who famously had one of his characters say, “First, let’s kill all the lawyers.” But does the surging interest of the legal profession in green buildings mean we’ve finally entered the mainstream? For some cautionary tales, read “First Let’s Kill All the Lawyers.”
Yudelson Associates Project Profiles
This
spring, Jerry worked with VCBO Architects of Salt Lake City, to facilitate
a design charrette for a new four-story science building at 2,000-student
private Westminster College in Salt Lake City. The charrette brought together
facilities professionals, development officials and three science faculty
members from the College, together with the architects, builders and lab/engineering
consultants.
In the course of just one day, we were able to explore the key issues in making this a LEED Gold building, working interactively as a group through key issues involving energy use, water use, site adaptation, resource and materials conservation and indoor environmental quality. Everyone left with a new appreciation of how to integrate these green design elements into a new lab and classroom building. In a higher education setting, getting all the stakeholders around the table is often the key to making good decisions for high-performance building projects.

A Leader in Green Building Keynotes
Jerry
Yudelson has become one of the most sought after keynote speakers and
workshop leaders in the green building market.
In May, we spoke at two summits hosted in Southern California by Swinerton Builders, an annual retreat for “heavy hitters” in the development community who support the University of Southern California Lusk School of Real Estate and the Arizona State University Planning and Design Academy. Upcoming speaking engagements will take us to Milwaukee, Anchorage/Homer, Alaska and Orange County (CA) in September, and Minneapolis and Salt Lake City the first week of October.
