Global Perspectives: Green Building “Virus” Spreading Worldwide

Speaking in Hungary
Jerry Yudelson speaking in Hungary

The buzz around green building is spreading as evidenced by Jerry Yudelson’s worldwide travels giving keynotes and the feedback of green building councils from around the world.

In today’s world, sometimes these travels need a little bit of luck. On his way out of Budapest, Hungary, in mid-April following the Central and Eastern Europe Green Building CEE conference, Jerry got out of Paris just six hours before the airports in France closed down due to the Icelandic volcano! Some of our colleagues were stuck in Budapest for a week!

Most importantly, what he learned from representatives of green building councils of Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Austria, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey is that green building has "gone viral" and is now an established worldwide movement. Needless to say, this is a very exciting development for our efforts to combat carbon emissions from buildings.

Jerry Yudelson’s keynotes at conferences in the Persian Gulf, Europe and Southeast Asia have further helped to spread the good word about green building. In April, in addition to the Budapest conference, Jerry keynoted the Doha Green and Sustainability Summit in Qatar. In May, Jerry keynoted Green Building Middle East in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and the Leadership in Green Building lecture series at the BCA Academy in Singapore. Along the way, he also spoke to more than 100 graduates of the Temasek Polytechnic School in Singapore about opportunities in the green building industry.

UniSource

UniSource LEED Building Certification
As part of our continuing efforts to secure LEED certification for large projects, Yudelson Associates is managing the LEED certification process for a pending LEED Gold project, the 250,000-sq.ft. UniSource corporate headquarters project in Tucson, Arizona. UniSource is the parent company of Tucson Electric Power. This project will be an “instant landmark” in downtown Tucson when completed in 2011. Our client is the nationally prominent Ryan Companies.

Bringing New Green Building Software to the US Market
Yudelson Associates is working with a exciting young Australian company, BuildingIQ, to introduce a new building energy-efficiency optimization software product into the US market. Working with the CEO Mike Zimmerman, we are developing pilot projects this summer with large building owners and managers. The goal is to have those responsible for sustainability management see how this revolutionary technology can be used to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions in commercial buildings.
