Special Request:  Please Help Us Find The World’s Greenest Buildings

Dear Green Building Professional,

Speaking in Hungary

The World’s Greenest Building?

As the global warming situation becomes more dire with each passing year and we watch the inaction of governments around the world, we are taking action to shine the spotlight on “The World’s Greenest Buildings,” those that perform at the highest level of sustainability, with documented low use of water and energy. Without strong gains in building performance over the next decade, it will be nearly impossible to begin reducing greenhouse gas emissions globally.

Identifying High-Performance Buildings Worldwide. We are writing to request your participation and support for our next green building book project, “The World’s Greenest Buildings: Promise vs. Performance in Sustainable Design.” Co-authors Jerry Yudelson and Professor Ulf Meyer are preparing this book for the large UK-based publisher Routledge (Taylor & Francis Group), and in this book we plan to highlight about 60 projects worldwide, representing “the best of the best.”

Your Help is Needed. We want leading architects and engineers, building owners and facility managers from around the world to serve as advisors to this project, and so we are reaching out to you in order to tap into your knowledge base and to make sure that we find the best examples of real world green building performance.

Performance Data Required. In fact, because we are serious about actual performance, the case studies and noteworthy projects in this book will be based on collecting actual energy and water performance data from the highest-rated green buildings around the world (LEED Platinum, Australian Six Star Green Star, BREEAM Outstanding, etc.) At this time, we can only consider projects larger than 5,000-sq.m. or 50,000-sq.ft., realized since the beginning of 2004, fully occupied and with one full year (minimum) of performance data.

Global Scope. It’s especially important for this book to be global in scope, so we’d like your suggestions about important high-performance projects outside the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia, those that represent the emerging greenbuilding world of China, India, Brazil and other rapidly urbanizing countries. We also need to identify great projects in Western European countries, many of which have not had easily accessible certification programs until very recently.

SurveyHere’s How to Help. To get this book done on time and with the best possible information, we need your help at this time. Can you suggest one or more projects (including your own) that should be included in this book? Specifically, if you were the architect, what is the owner’s name and contact information? Or, if you know of such a project, please provide the name of the architect or another project contact.

In order to make it easy for you to assist this project and so that we can systematically track candidate green buildings, we are providing a simple and brief online 12-question survey:
