Green Building Services

Jerry Yudelson provides Green Building and LEED-specific consulting services for all project types, including commercial, institutional, higher education, K-12 schools, healthcare, residential, retail, hospitality, recreational and cultural. Recent projects have included an eco-resort in Mexico, a billion-dollar commercial office/hotel transit-oriented development in Connecticut, an 800-acre green residential development in Texas, a college science building in Utah and an urban redevelopment project in Washington state.

Jerry is one of the original 10 LEED faculty members in the U.S. and currently serves on the national core committees for both LEED for Core and Shell (the developer’s standard) and LEED for New Construction, the only person to have a seat on both of these key committees. He can provide expert guidance in the LEED system, including LEED-NC, LEED-CS, LEED-EB, LEED-ND and LEED-CI rating systems.

He is expert in conducting project visioning sessions and facilitating LEED-related “eco-charrettes” to help projects achieve key sustainability goals. Jerry coaches design teams to achieve high-performance results on conventional budgets, by fostering an integrated design approach.

Our objective is to help a client understand life-cycle costs as well as first costs. We help set goals for “payback” of project features related to energy and water efficiency and work with design teams to come up with creative solutions that minimize first cost, while providing increased levels of energy and water efficiency. We also provide counsel on what levels of technology are appropriate for today’s occupancy while providing flexibility for future building uses.

Jerry Yudelson and Yudelson Associates have been involved with a number of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) projects, including the LEED-certified Tacoma (WA) Police Headquarters and Vehicle Maintenance Facilities, the Midstate Electric LEED Gold project in LaPine, Oregon, the Ethos Music Academy (Platinum-seeking) in Portland, the Bertha Station low-income housing project, and several design-stage projects in Arizona.

Jerry Yudelson and Yudelson Associates are experts in assessing opportunities for partnering and accessing available incentive and grant funds for LEED-related projects. One such project is the Ethos Music Academy LEED-Platinum project in Portland, where Jerry assisted in writing a grant application to the Kresge Foundation that was funded at the $100,000 level.

Since 2004, Jerry has participated in the development of the LEED for Core and Shell (LEED-CS) standard, aimed at the development industry, and as chair of the steering committee for four of the U.S. Green Building Council’s annual “Greenbuild” international conferences (2004-2007), the world’s largest green building events. In 2006, he was elected to the LEED for New Construction (LEED-NC) national “core” committee; in this position, he will be one of the influential voices in producing a new LEED 3.0 standard.

Jerry has been a member of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Board of Directors and a LEED trainer since 2001.  As a sustainability expert, he frequently publishes in national trade and professional publications on green building design, economics, marketing and other sustainability issues.
