New Green Building Book Measures Sustainability of World’s Greenest Buildings
Mon, February 04, 2013 - 4:09:47The latest green building book from author, keynote speaker and sustainability consultant Jerry Yudelson asks: How can green buildings have a meaningful impact on global sustainability? What’s the truth about how green buildings really perform? How much water do they consume? How much energy do they save? In Yudelson’s important new book, “The World’s Greenest Buildings: Promise vs Performance in Sustainable Design,” Yudelson and co-author Ulf Meyer answer these questions and more. Using 55 case studies of LEED Platinum and equivalent buildings from 18 countries, the book offers detailed data on energy use and water consumption. Learn more here.
BlueTech Forum 2012 - The Water Technology Opportunity in Green Buildings, Jerry Yudelson
Thu, December 13, 2012 - 9:53:03Advances in water technology used to reduce building water consumption offer new business opportunities for selling packaged graywater, blackwater and rainwater reclaim systems, technologies and management/monitoring systems to building owners, especially those committed to green building projects. Jerry Discusses Net Zero Energy Greenbuilding at 2011 Greenbuild Toronto
Sun, January 01, 2012 - 5:54:26In this video clip, Jerry discusses the business case for net zero buildings, something he presented first in March 2011, in an article for the annual White Paper of Building Design & Construction magazine. The key point is that the business case varies dramatically by the type of user and purpose of the building. Secondarily, the key elements of the business case include tangible and intangible aspects of a project, for example energy savings (tangible) and marketing/PR benefits (largely intangible). The third point is that some benefits are not obvious at first glance, for example, creating a net zero building may enhance investor interest in a for-profit project, or for a college may increase interest by potential students. The key issue here is that the extra cost of such a project can be offset by a variety of real and potential benefits, all of which merit careful consideration and often require further study of the impact of the project on its many stakeholders.
